Summer Time IPA

Classic Northwest IPA, easy body with a good hop punch

Beer: Summer Time IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
5 HCU (~4 SRM)
Bitterness: 86 IBU
OG: 1.066 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 6.9% v/v (5.4% w/w)
Water: Tacoma water: nothing added, nothing needed
Grain: 10 lb. American 2-row
1 lb. American Vienna
1 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Mash: 75% efficiency
Infusion mash 156° for 60 minutes. Mash out up to 165° for 15 minutes.
Boil: minutes SG 1.055 6 gallons
Hops: 1 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 45 min.)
.5 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Nugget (aroma)
Yeast: Recaptured WL 007 Dry English Ale yeast
Log: Ferment for 7 - 9 days in my V-vessel fermenter
Transfer to glass carboy to settle out for 3 - 5 days (try to cool it outside for the last days to get suspended yeast to fall out).
Keg under 10 lbs of CO2.
Carbonation: 10 lbs forced CO2
Tasting: I've made this recipe a couple of other times and it has proven to be a very good summer "workhorse" recipe. Easy drinking with a good hop punch (but nothing crazy).
I have made this recipe with Tomahawk, Chinook, Galena or Nugget hops. During the hops shortage to 2007/2008 you have to be creative with any high alpha hop variety.
