Beer: Terrapin Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
23 HCU (~13 SRM)
Bitterness: 76 IBU
OG: 1.060 FG: 1.014
Alcohol: 6.0% v/v (4.7% w/w)
Water: 2 tsp Gypsum
Grain: 8 oz. American 2-row (Toasted @ 350F for 10 min)
1 lb. American crystal 60L
Steep: Place grain bag in 1.5 gal cool water and slowly heat to 155°F. Steep for 45 minutes at 155°F. Sparge with 0.5 gal water at 175°F. Collect runnings to brewpot.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.151 2 gallons
6 lb. Light dry malt extract
1 tsp Irish Moss for last 15 minutes of boil.
Hops: 2 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: While Labs 001 - California Ale
Log: Ferment 7 days at 70°F. Rack to secondary, add 1 oz Cascade hops (dry hop) and 4 oz oak chips. Allow in secondary 10 days at 60°F.
Tasting: I first made this for a buddy's bachelor party. I had my keg sitting side by side with Sierra Pale Ale. Time and time again my hophead friends chose mine over the Sierra. Good enough for me... this one's a keeper.
