Pearl Harbor IPA

Beer: Pearl Harbor IPA Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
14 HCU (~9 SRM)
Bitterness: 40 IBU
OG: 1.085 FG: 1.020
Alcohol: 8.3% v/v (6.5% w/w)
Water: Used 5 Gallons of Arrowhead Bottled Water. Topped off fermenter with 1 gallon of tap water.
Grain: 0.98 lb. Crystal 15L
Steep: Steeping Crystal 1.5L Grain was added in a bag immediately upon start, along with 1.5 lbs of Ultra Light Dry Extract. Steeping grain was removed at 170° F.
Boil: 65 minutes SG 1.141 3 gallons
9 lb. Light malt extract
2 lb. Light dry malt extract
Used Irish moss for last five minutes of boil.
Hops: 1.5 oz. Chinook (12% AA, 60 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 15 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: Used Pacific Ale Yeast (White Labs WLP 041). The yeast was recycled from a previous fermentation and was in it's second use.
Log: Brewing Date 7 December 2012. Temperature of fermentation was 60°F. Dry hopped 2 oz of Cascade hops on 2nd fermentation on 21 December 2012. Bottled beer on 26 December 2012. Beer was in cool dark climate at 60°F.
Carbonation: 4 oz of corn sugar was used to give a 2.5 CO2 reading. Creates a good head quickly.
Tasting: Blonde in color on a dark spectrum. Mixed bitter sweet taste with a hint of lemon/hops on the finish.
