Firehouse Ale

This beer turned out better than expected. It took 1st place in the American Amber Ale division at the Iowa State Fair, and scored 36.5 points.

Bitterness: 21 IBU
OG: 1.061 FG: 1.020
Alcohol: 5.2% v/v (4.1% w/w)
Water: Used bottled drinking water
Grain: .5 lb. American Vienna
.75 lb. American crystal 60L
1 oz. Roasted barley
Steep: Placed grains in a grain bag and poured 3 gallons cold water over it, heated to 150° and held for 30 minutes. Sparged grains with 170° water. Bring water to a boil and remove from heat, add dry malt extract, and return to a boil for 60 minutes adding hops at the appropriate times.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.111 3 gallons
7 lb. Light dry malt extract
Use irish moss for the final 15 minutes of the boil.
Hops: .5 oz. Chinook (12% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 5 min.)
Yeast: White Labs WLP001
Log: Primary fermentation for 1 week at 65°, secondary ferment for 10 days at 65°
Carbonation: Bottle prime using corn sugar
Tasting: Wouldn't change a thing the next time.
